The Management

Lens ter Wee

I was born where Rembrandt was born, on the day of Nixon's 'Silent Majority' speech in the year of Woodstock. I came to Indonesia in 1997 to teach but ended up running Eastern Promise instead (April 1st 2006). A drastic career move but I've loved every (well almost every) minute of it. I am proud of all we've achieved, our great staff, our equally great regulars and all those other thousands of customers that have hopefully enjoyed spending their time here. Besides managing EP, I am happy to coach the footballers of BuGils FC, watch Dutch television and eat Nasi Padang.

Meggy (Operations Manager)

My Name is Meggy Mumu, I was born on November 15, many years ago ☺ in Manado, a land where all the beautiful girls come from. Everybody thinks Mumu is just my nickname but it's my real Manadonese name. A free beer for the first one who knows what it means! My hobby is working at EP and I’ve been here since 2007.

Chie-Chie (Bar Supervisor)

I was born on Dec 5, 1985, in Cianjur, West-Java, Indonesia. By the way Cianjur rice is the best rice in Indonesia ;-) When I was 18 years old I moved to Bandung for 4 years to study public relations at the university of Ariyanti. In 2005 I left Bandung to finish my second studies in Jakarta. During my studies I was especially interested in event organizing. I started working at Eastern Promise in 2006 and three years later I finished my studies at Interstudi Jakarta. As a bartender and now supervisor I have been the creator of many of EP's best seller cocktails including our delicious Strawberry Margarita and Mojito a la Chie2 :-)

Pak Herry (Senior Chef)

Pak Herry, our Senior Chef, started his cooking career 38 years ago in 1973, when he was still attending The National Academy of Tourism in Jakarta. He has worked for more than 10 restaurants across the country since then, specializing in Western and Indian dishes. Pak Herry has been with Eastern Promise since the beginning of the restaurant’s history, making him one of our icons. About his long-time experience working for EP, he passionately remarked, “I have a strong sense of belonging here and I feel like I’m part of the big family. The managers have been very nice and I have a great (kitchen) team to work with.”

Bobby (Über Chef)

My name is Bobby Jean (named after the Bruce Springsteen song) and I was born in Samarinda, East Borneo in 1972. I became a cook by accident in 1991 when i was studying in Seattle. In 1995 I became a certified chef in Sydney. I joined EP as a chef in July 2010. My hobbies are going out into the wilderness, music and art.”

Ani (Restaurant Supervisor)

A noticeably refreshing character, our Senior Waitress Ani is one of the busiest personnel in the restaurant, juggling between cashier duties and serving guests. She has worked for Eastern Promise since 2002 and is well-known among our regulars for her friendliness. “The restaurant feels like home to me.” she said of EP, “My managers and co-workers are great and I feel like I’m part of a big family. They (EP’s management – writer) also take care of me very well.”
