Located amidst the bright lights of Kemang, Jakarta’s youthful urban neighborhood, Eastern Promise is a traditional English-style pub that has maintained an established reputation as a prime destination for dining and nightlife denizens for many years. One of the oldest pubs in the city, Eastern Promise is a celebration of community, lots of beer, great food, world sports and local and expat live music performances every Friday and Saturday night.
Our menu offers a great selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and a tasteful range of British Indian dishes as well as all-time pub favorites.
The venue offers a cordial ambiance and features a restaurant, a bar, a sports & function room and an alfresco drinking area, making it ideal for a range of purposes, from relaxing with colleagues after work to organizing personal events.
The Pub's History
The pub’s history dates back to 1989, when it was opened by Carl Girlchrist, a British businessman who once owned eighteen pubs throughout Indonesia. In April 2006, Eastern Promise (or EP as it is more popularly known) was acquired by the owners of BuGils Café, a legendary expat hangout in Taman Ria Senayan that closed in 2008.
The new management successfully revived the bar’s good old days. Teamed by friendly managers and loyal chefs and waitresses – some of whom have worked for the pub for more than 15 years and will not forget your name after your first visit - the pub has assembled a strong base of regular patrons, comprising a healthy share of expatriates and urban-minded Indonesians that form a close-knit community and now identify Eastern Promise as their second home.
